10h15 : Alan BRINKLEY (Columbia University, New York), Innovations and Recriminations at the Dawn of the American Cold War.

This paper will deal with the tensions between the American commitment to the "containment" policy in the late 1940s and the recriminations that resulted from the Communist victories in China and eastern Europe. The tension between the "innovation" of containment and the bitterness that emerged from China and eastern Europe created a serious and prolonged struggle over how America should behave in the world.
